We all have heard of “finding our WHY” in life, at work, in general in order to be better connected and motivated to achieve our goals.
📌 But what if the WHY was related to the entire industry?
📌 What would be the role of this WHY and who needs it?
While listening to The "Capital S Story" podcast, hosted by Paul Furiga (podcast link in the comments) I reflected on the capital S Story of the datacentre industry, on who is telling that Story for us today and how it portrays us, how it could be better?
As human beings we need to believe in something bigger than ourselves in order to keep growing and aspiring to better things. Any industry needs to be loud about its benefits to all and everyone and share that bigger WHY in order to defends itself.
The datacentre industry S Storyline within the industry itself is definitely that of:
- growth,
- wealth creation and
- bright future developments
All of us, working in datacentres, supplying datacentres, investing in datacentres are convinced it is THE place to be 🏆.
And rightly so.
Yet, most of people outside of datacentre industry might hear a slightly different, louder and more general public-focused storyline that highlights scarcity concerns and doesn't fully grasp the datacentre role in today's world ie that of the place "where the internet lives" (Google podcast see in the comments).
👩💻 So what could be the datacentre industry Story with a capital S?
♦️ A datacentre close to your location means you are streaming seamlessly, we take it for granted but if you travelled wide and far you might have experienced no-CDNs, no-DCs internet and its challenges. Datacentres make your phone operate the way you want it.
♦️ ♦️ datacentres allow any business no matter how small the access to world class cloud infrastructure for a fraction of a price, distributed across regions, infrastructure they would not be able to afford within a traditional capex model. And clouds live in the datacentres.
♦️ ♦️ ♦️ GPU-accelerated AI Factories power most advanced supercomputers in the world that are now becoming accessible in form of GPUaaS. This revolution is happening specifically in datacentres and would not be possible in any other environment.
♦️ ♦️ ♦️ ♦️ any many more are possible...
We want to create and own the Story that is loud enough to reach and create supporters of these WHYs. Once people hear, see and understand why datacentres are beneficial to all of us they will connect these benefits to their cities and local communities and countries.
It's through a simple and widely visible Story with the capital S that we will reach future employees, innovative young brains, institutional decision makers and general public, all the important stakeholders that we want to be in dialog with today and in the future.
🔷 what do you think the capital S Story of datacentre could be?
